ITU World Cup Astana (KAZ)

Winter in may?

19/05 I participated in the ITU world cup race of Astana.

My previous race, the national duathlon champs went really well for me. I took the victory and was in great shape.

But after the race, I began to feel a tenderness in my ankle. From then on, I stopped running, hoping not to aggrevate the injury. So I went to the race without running for 3 weeks, not that much of a problem really. In Kazachstan it was very cold, so cold it was almost certain to be a duathlon race. Normally that would be a good thing for me, but now I was unsure about my ankle. Finally, the race turned out to be a triathlon but with a shortened swim.

Being a small and lean body, I just couldn’t cope with the very cold water. I had the most terrible swim of my life and was way down. Also being very very very cold, I decided to quit the race after the swim. At the same time sparing my ankle.. Sure itsn't nice to have a DNF behind my name. A race to forget and move on!
